ФielföلkaŠtát (MULTI-ETHNIC STATE)
This performance is fluent in several languages. Something sweeps across Europe and the Danube Monarchy: the idea of a multi-ethnic state. We set off with this idea in mind, travelling through various landscapes, on both sides of the Leitha River; we arrive at railway stations and theatres, visit female textile factory workers on strike, rest by a flourishing linden tree, and join the crowd celebrating the change on the banks of the Danube. In Ewe Benbenek’s playful and multifaceted play, actors from Budapest, Vienna and Graz work together, shifting between languages, eras and perspectives as they seek the points where past and present converge.
