Ashes, mist, and dust spread around,
I have plenty to build from the ground.
Stench and decay are dwelling inside,
Like a whitewashed tomb, sealed up and wide.
At the pyramid’s foot, down in the dust,
Lie tales and old theories, forgotten and lost.
Above them, my work shall rise,
On a staircase built of lies.
And at the top, in letters of flame:
“He feared to live, he feared to repent his sins.”

Peer Gynt is one of the cornerstones of European drama, a grand-scale work that introduces us to a wide range of different world views. Directed by Benő Balázs Fehér, the ensemble of Katona explores the themes of freedom, self-identity, reality and fantasy in a production characterised by a unique aesthetic language.
