Ascher Tamás is an acclaimed Hungarian theatre director and university professor, and a recipient of Hungary’s Kossuth and Jászai Mari Prizes. He graduated in theatre directing from the University of Theatre and Film Arts in 1973 and began his career at the Csiky Gergely Theatre in Kaposvár, where he later became principal director. In 1978, at the invitation of Gábor Zsámbéki. He has been a member of the Katona József Theatre since 1989 and its principal director since 2011.

From 2006 to 2014, he was Rector of the University of Theatre and Film Arts. He is a full member of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts.
