Brecht said that even in the bloodiest times there are good people. A woman flees in the middle of war with a child in her arms. Who refuses? Who takes her in? Is the child hers if she did not give birth to it, but saved its life? Peace is temporarily restored: the birth mother reclaims the child she once abandoned. In a corrupt country, the case is brought before a corrupt judge. What will be the verdict? Through the stories of Gruse the servant and Azdak the judge, The Caucasian Chalk Circle is about helping and the responsibility of making decisions.
