The Reunification of the Two Koreas is not about politics. It is neither about Korea nor Hungary. It can be applied to everything and everybody, as it presents both tragic and comic situations; a French newspaper called it “the tart kaleidoscope of human relations”. “The Reunification of the Two Koreas is a series of unrelated snapshots. These ironic-humorous fragments of stories are most similar to a number of short stories written on the same subject.” – says the author on his play.
Joël Pommerat is one of the most interesting creators of today’s French theatre; he is an author, director and artistic director at the same time. He only directs his own plays, his working method is based on cooperative experimenting and improvisation. On his fourtieth birthday he has started an unusual project: he promised the actors of his company to write a new play for them each year through the next forty years. The project has been going on since 2004.
Pommerat and his company have worked and is still working in Peter Brook’s theatre, Théatre des Bouffes du Nord, the Odéon of Paris and the National Theatre of Brussels as well. The Reunification of the Two Koreas premiered in the Odéon, in 2013.
Premiere: 17 October, 2014
