Memories are unreliable and tricky and slippery because their biological function is to support our narratives. We are human, we seek coherence. We cannot live with contradictions. And we do not construct our worldview from our memories; rather, our worldview is already formed, and we pick and mold those memories that confirm that yes, we see the world correctly, it really is like this. And my place is here. And theirs is there. Victim. Freedom fighter. The nasty, evil man.
