A small provincial Russian town is suddenly aroused from its lethargy by the imminent arrival of the first railroad. The inhabitants of the town are waiting for arrival of the two engineers who finally arrive to prepare the railroad works. One of them is an elderly drunkard, the other one is young and handsome, hates the boredom of the town, and wants to "shake it up"...
