Gábor Máté

He graduated at the University of Theatre, Film and Television in 1980 and became an artist fo Csiky Gergely Theatre. He joined the Katona József Theatre in 1987, where he has been working not only as an actor but as the leading director. From 2011 he has been the artistic director of Katona. He has been teaching at the University of Theatre, Film and Televion since 1993, where he is the deputy president. Besides the Katona József Theatre, he regurarly works as a director at the Gárdonyi Géza Theatre at Eger and the Centre of Theatre and Arts of Zsámbék.

His works as director include The Talisman, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Hour We Knew Nothing About Each Other, Measure for Measure, Looking for The Key, An Axe in the Head,The Idiot, Trout Quintet, ”rombolni nem színházat építeni szívesen”, Locusts, Lieutenant Meller, What's this Sound?, Two-Headed Beast, Arms and the Man (The Hero and the Chocolate Soldier).

He played important roles in Platonov, Catullus, The Broken Jug, Arcadia, Hamlet, Julius Ceasar, Hedda Gabler, The Revenge, Tartuffe, Medea, Casemates, Tales of Commonsense Insanity, A Sexual Congress, The Key, Barbarians,The Last Night of Carnival, The Wild Duck, The Triumph of Love, Dilettanti, Ivanov, Bump, The Petty Bourgeois.

He currently plays in The Misanthrope (Oronte), Heldenplatz (Prof. Robert Schuster), Light-eaters (Nazar).

His current directions are Gypsies, Our Class, Backward, Red, Illaberek, The Reunification of the Two Koreas.

He often works as director at other theatres. He has appeared in several film and TV works.

He got several prestigeous state and professional prizes for his acting.
